From the desk of Bette Schubert, Bravo co-founder:

It's no surprise that Bravo's story starts with a dog. Cricket, my beloved golden retriever and arguably my other half, was the catalyst that helped me to share my values and healthy wishes for pets everywhere.

Cricket - Rose's Great Great Grandmother

I used to feed traditional raw meals - think grinding up chicken necks as part of the protein - when I realized that the nutrition was universal but the amount of effort and access needed to feed that sort of diet was not. I was feeding a litter of Cricket’s puppies when my grinder broke, and that’s when I decided that a raw-fed lifestyle could - and should - be a more streamlined process for pet parents like me.

Through research, I found Bogner Quality Meats, a business that’s been providing meats to restaurants and families in New England since 1942. The same company that still manufactures Bravo Pet Foods today. We started this journey together, including Cricket as our taste-tester and perpetual employee of the month.

Six years ago, I was devastated by Cricket’s passing. Around that time, I was in the midst of traveling for Bravo, and decided that a new best friend would be a commitment that was too daunting. I made the tough decision not to have a dog until things settled down.

As of 2017, that time has come: Cricket’s great-great-grandpuppy, Rose, is my new companion and I’m elated to be able to share the raw-fed journey with this new bundle of energy and happiness.

For the first time in what feels like a lifetime, I’m navigating all things puppy. So much has changed in the six years since I’ve had a dog in the house full-time. This blog is going to be a part of this new journey - a way to document our process and help share the things I’ve learned and realized after all these years as a healthy pet and raw feeding advocate. I hope you enjoy following me and Rose on our new path.
